Thornton vs. Guy

Hello and welcome to the first day of our June challenge! If you missed the description of our new Richard Armitage gRAphics project, you can read about it in yesterday’s blogpost.

Today we have a competition between John Thornton and Sir Guy of Gisborne. Our contributions come to us from april73 who requested a contest to determine who is sexier. In case you didn’t know, april73 has a French blog with fanfiction, poetry and other items of interest: April’s Violet. Thank you, april73!

Here is your graphic which you can click to enlarge:

Old Smolder, Sexy Scent, Industrial Strength / Thornton vs. Guy / Older Smolder, Sexy Scent, Medieval Ambition

As you can see, I was clearly influenced by Old Spice men’s products. I churned through a few notions before settling on this concept. I thought of comparing candles and torches, surrounding the figures in smoke, and adding the factory and castle. Finally, I decided to incorporate the factory and castle on men’s perfume bottles.

Initially, I was going to name the products “Old Spice” and “Older Spice” but then “Old Smolder” and “Older Smolder” popped into my head. The scent name “Industrial Strength” came quite readily but I needed to think about Guy’s characteristics a bit before thinking of “Medieval Ambition.”

Since this is a contest, feel free to vote in the poll below! 😀 Note: If you can’t see the poll, you can try a different browser or click the following hyperlink to be taken to polldaddy: Who has the better smolder?

Can you think of some other scents for different Richard Armitage characters?

I just can’t decide which one I like the most… Lol!!

  2. Judit says:

Bcc, you are sooo funny and creative! It’s a brilliant, brilliant concept! 🙂 Absolutely adore it! I voted for Thornton but I know I’ll be in the minority in the end…

  3. Judit says:

Btw, do any of you think RA would ever take part in an ad campaign for a men’s perfume a la Clive Owen (who’s the “face” of Lancome)?

  4. april73 says:

It’s wonderful and very funny Bccmee, bravo !!! 🙂

I love both character, but I must confess that I have a little preference for Mr Sexy Black Leather… ❤

  5. ROFL! This is brilliant. Have to admit though, as much as I love Thornton, Guy’s smoulder does look far sexier. Now if the question had been who was the more romantic….♥

    • april73 says:

I think Guy could also be a romantic guy… sometimes, lol.

But if you would like a lovely husband and no problem, Mr Thornton is a better match, lol.

      • Yes, you are right april73. Romantic Guy, eh? Maybe if you catch him off guard. Agree that Thornton would make the better husband but then again I wasn’t thinking husband material. LOL! Well done on the choice of pictures for the challenge.

BTW – re BO – it’s short for Body Odour. 😉

  6. ItsJSforMe says:

Ohmygosh!!! I love this! Great idea for a challenge, bccmee 🙂 Terrific caps & contest, april73! I voted for Guy. Older Smolder, indeed!

  7. First loves die hard. I’ll go with Mr. Thornton! Wonderful image Bccmee, as always 🙂

  8. Emma says:

You never cease to amaze me with your creativity! You’re a funny girl, too. Love it! 😀

  9. This is so clever Bccmee!!! If there was a bottle of Guy/Thornton’s scent I would buy gallons of that … on second thought I’d better not, it could be the death of me 😎
I voted for Thornton, don’t ask me why … I think there’s something sexy about not being explicitly sexy.
I enjoy how you make us all part of your thinking process, thank you!!!!!

  10. lesleyann says:

Lovely image Bccmee. Can’t decide which I prefer love them both for different reasons so will have to stay on the fence this time!!!

  11. I have to confess that I tried to vote twice *evil grin* it didn’t count buahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
    😉

  12. cdoart says:

Nothing can beat the sexiness of a well groomed and combed man for me ;o) So, for me, Guy unfortunately stood no chance against Mr. Thornton, though Guy’s pirate like appearance is a nice treat as well.

  13. Elaine says:

Laughed til I nearly cried – now just going to smile the remainder of the day! April’s Violet, did you imagine it would turn out this great? Bccmee, you’re a wizard.

  14. Faboamanto says:

Thornton and Guy are both smolder masters, but Guy’s can burn you alive 🙂 Great contest Bccmee and April73

Other scents for RA characters? John Bateman’s Obsession: Only the North knows for sure
    or Thorin’s Cool Water

    🙂

  15. LOL! What a challenge, what an adv!!
I would say Medieval Ambition is hotter than Industrial Strenght, more evocative of primitive maleness, but you know…. I don’t want to choose, I like both!

  16. Teuchter says:

This is absolutely brilliant Bccmee and so funny!! I nearly fell off my chair I was laughing so hard!! I was almost literally ROFL!! 😀 It was really hard to choose between them when it comes to the smoulder but in the end I had to go with John Thornton. There is something about all that suppressed emotion that gets to me. It’s a wonder the cotton waste didn’t catch fire!! 😉

  17. ayyp says:

Voted for Thornton. 🙂 Thanks, Bccmee!

  18. jazzbaby1 says:

OMG, this is HILARIOUS! Thanks to april73 for the idea and to B for the fab execution!

  19. Yum. The only valid response.

  20. Ania says:

Oh, it is difficult to decide…. But I voted for Sir Guy, I’m sorry Mr. Thornton. 😉 Very funny image, Bccmee! 🙂 April73, you chose really breathtaking pictures. ♥

    • april73 says:

      Thanks Ania. 🙂

It’s not hard to choose beautiful pictures of John and Guy, lol.

And those pics are my favourite of Richard as Thornton and Gisborne. ❤

  21. titianminx says:

I just can’t decide…Both smoulder brilliantly!!! Guy looks like he’s burning into your soul in this pic. RA is gorgeous as both men, but then he is breathtakingly gorgeous anyway 🙂

  22. tyme4t says:

Soooooo good! Love the Older Smolder *tea spirt barely averted*
Voted for Thornton (but it was a close one)
You sure do spoil us bccmee! Thanks!

  23. vec170203 says:

    hmmmm…. the better smolder…. really it’s a hard, hard decision! 🙂
I voted for Thorton, he has a deep appeal that seduces and only makes you wander what’s behind those eyes

  24. jeanniegisborne says:

I found it hard to read as I was laughing so much! What a brilliant idea, B and april73. Of course both men can really smoulder but Medieval Ambition gets me every time. 😉

  25. Carolyn says:

It’s always difficult for me to choose when it’s the two of them up against each other! I can’t say that Guy has the ‘better’ smolder but I think his is more lethal. LOL

  26. Brandi Tiapula says:

Thornton is PERFECTION. An exquisite man. He’ll always be my #1 in every single pole.. Thank you, this was a lotta fun.. Nice job!

  27. Lady Prisca says:

Very original Bccmee , as always! Thank you April.
Voted for Guy but John is a verrrry sexy man too (he kiss like no other).
I’ve no idea for scents for the moment , sorry , it’s difficult.
I wonder what is the scent used by Richard. If I knew it I would buy it and spray it on my pillow to make sweet and sexy dreams.

    • Teuchter says:

I’ve often wondered which aftershave he uses!! If I knew I’d be sorely tempted to buy a big bottle of it like you, Lady Prisca, and spray it on my pillow and maybe on myself – that way I’d at least know what he SMELLED like!! 😉 **swoon**

    • Holliday says:

      Now THAT’S a cool idea.

    • april73 says:

      Thanks Lady Prisca.:-)

Indeed, Richard is very sexy as Mr Thornton. Daniela was very lucky to play Margaret and kiss him at the end. 😉

  28. beengizzied says:

Guy would vote for himself and probably vote often using strong arm tactics at the voting station. John would count the votes and tally them neatly in his ledger.

    • jazzbaby1 says:

You forgot “then Mr. Bell would pay someone to stir the pot and there’d be a fight and Margaret would try to get in the middle and Fanny would gossip about it but would totally swoon as soon as Guy looked her way.”

  29. Holliday says:

It was a tough choice. A REALLY tough choice, but I ended up choosing Guy.

Funny that Old Spice was such an inspiration. I’ve often thought that Richard could do an Old Spice commerical just from this picture. http://www.richardarmitagenet.com/images/gallery/Richard/Promos/ProjectMagJuly2011/album/slides/ProjectMag-07.html

  30. mersguy says:

It has to be Guy doesn’t it? He has the smoulder, sneer, smirk and leer down pat. ☺

  31. “Industrial Strength”. Giggles!

  32. That´s a splendid idea of a challenge between the RA´s characters,Bcc. It´s a pity I have came late to this party, but no problem, I´ve already enjoying it a lot. Now, it´s a truly torture to have to choose between these two adorable men. Guy burn us only with his look and Thorthon smelt us with all his subtle charm .
    So today I choose Thorthon.
    Can I vote twice???

  33. Bccmee, thanks so much for starting another fun challenge!
I voted for Thornton but it really was difficult to choose!

  34. bccmee says:

@Everyone: Thanks so much for your comments on our collaborative graphic! You make me laugh! 😀

Ooh, I like Faboamanto’s suggestions for possible character scents: “John Bateman’s Obsession: Only the North knows for sure” and “Thorin’s Cool Water.”

It was a close race for awhile but it seems that Sir Guy has pulled out well ahead now. I voted for Mr. Thornton. 😛

  35. PV says:

Bcc! i am heartbroken! my JT is losing to guy? who who is doing this! Can i vote more than once, can i vote a zillion times for my Mr.Thornton! phweeeassee!!

  36. PV says:

by the way i love the caption on the scents 🙂 Industrial Strength is my pick! “Old Smolder” and “Older Smolder” , ha ha, thats so smart and funny!. You should be a copywriter for ads.
