Welcome to day 1 of A Graphic a Day in May 2012.
Today’s John Porter picture was submitted by magwi. Thank you, magwi!
Here is the base image:
And here is today’s graphic:
This image was definitely influenced by magwi’s operatic choice. Somehow it fit to place John Porter in Majorca, LOL! She chose a song from the 1984 movie Carmen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dutx8qQ9qfE
I had so much fun making this project! I played around with a few ideas that didn’t work at first but then I kept feeling the pull of the music which led me to an exotic locale. I remembered Richard Armitage’s interview about Spooks where he joked about his Lucas North character going to Majorca and somehow that thought wouldn’t leave, even though this was a John Porter graphic. 😀 It became a postcard.
After cutting out the John Porter character, I brightened him up a bit. Then I did a quick Google image search and found this snapshot:
You may notice that I changed the reflection in Porter’s sunglasses.
I also added a cement texture:
For the text “Greetings from Majorca” I used three different fonts. To create the 3D effect for the word “Majorca” I used the repoussé feature in Adobe Photoshop CS5 Extended.
Finally, I added a lens flare to the letter “O.”
That’s the story behind today’s graphic. 😀 I’ll see you tomorrow!
Oh my goodness why??? why didn’t I bumped into him when I was spending my last summer holidays in Majorca WHY??????????? Oh, I got it, because as real as it may seem, he was not there was he? But you surely made it look that way Bccmee, I gotta tell you that detail of the reflection on the sunglasses is really clever and perfect. That man in Majorca: Perfect!
Thank you!!
WOWW… JP fits in Majorca wonderfully!!! Great job, Bcc!! 😀
Beautifully done, Bccmee – it would look even spiffier without the edge of the car window.
So…we send you a photo of Richard or one of his characters and some text????
Very cool, bccmee! Thanks for adding the “how you did it”s”. I’d certainly spend time with Porter in Majorca! 😀 And I’ve always loved Habanera. Good choice, magwi!
That is absolutely amazing bccmee! I love it *happy dance*. Takes me right back in time to my first holiday abroad as a teenager, which was in Majorca! I have to disagree with karthryngaul re edge of car window. He’s obviously in a taxi on the way to his hotel from the airport. Love it loads. Really made me smile here. Thank you again. Brilliant stuff. ♥
@magwi: Wow, your first holiday abroad was Majorca? Richard Armitage may have been channeling you during his Spooks interview. 😉
Delighted you enjoyed our little collaboration. Yes, I kept the car window in there intentionally to give it more of a story. Glad you picked up on that! 😀
I so appreciate your delicious picture and wonderful song choice!
Of course…I can see it now! Obviously (since I was still only half-awake), my imagination wasn’t working correctly when I first viewed the graphic!. Sorry, ladies. :0 😉
LOL! kathryngaul. Now that you can see it you might just be able to see me sitting in the back seat. ROFL! 😉 ♥
This looks great, I love it!
This is fantastic ….. you make it look so easy!!
Thanks for sharing this with us – great stuff!!
Beautiful and your creation is so wonderful. The reflection in the sun-glasses is absolutely stunning and makes the picture so real. Thank you, bccmee !!!
I’m very happy Portah is on holidays and not in a mission!
I love Bizet and this movie in particular was a fantastic performance of Placido Domingo ♥ and Julia Migenes!
Great job BCC and Magwi!
Yes, I loved that film too Carla, my favourite take on Carmen!Julia Migenes is a fireball! 🙂
Lovely work Bcc. Porter in Majorca – almost rhymes!
Love it, Bccmee and Magwi!
I love it! At least one of his chaRActers made it to Majorca!! Wtg, bcc! 🙂 The reflection in the glasses is brilliant. I agree with Emma….adding the “this is how I did it” bit is a bonus. I always want to know how things are done. (Like you don’t already know that!) 😀
Excellent choice, magwi! Beautiful creation, bccmee.
What a beautiful postcard Bccmee! 🙂 I love it!
Once again, I bow to your brillance! There’s a freshness about this graphic and, of course, a huge swoon factor.
That came out really cool! I can’t wait to see what you do with all the others.
How did you know I wanted to be in Majorca with John Porter! You are super good at this Bccmee but I must say, the palm tree in reflection on Porter’s glasses, must be replaced by ME! He is looking at me. LOL.
Really, super super job on this. I am so inspired by your ability to do all the graphics that you do.
Ohh You are good! Wow even the reflection in the sunglasses! Thx Bcc Loving this month already 🙂
Congratulations, Bccmee! THe postcard is as cool as the man himself! 🙂 Looking forward to the other pics! 🙂
What a gReAt way to kick off the month of May!
@everyone: It seems some of you have visited Majorca. I have not yet had that pleasure. 😀 Looks like a paradise, and would be more so if John Porter was there, fictional or not, LOL!
*giggle* I like the idea of seeing ourselves in the reflection in Porter’s sunglasses. Haha, yes “Portah in Majorca” does have a certain ring to it. 😀
I’m thrilled with the song choice. Our little experiment is working! The music definitely has an influence. I really want to see the full movie now. Thanks again, magwi! And I appreciate everyone’s thoughtful and funny comments!
It’s excellent Bccmee, bravo !!! 🙂
Excellent! I’m glad you got the Majorca photo showing the famous sunny summer, not the less famous cold and rainy winter. It’s lovely to imagine Porter on the beach with lots of sunscreen. I, too, love the 1984 film of Carmen. It was shot in and around a little city not far from my home.
What a great start bcc, May is going to be fun with these graphics! Thankyou for explaining how you put it together, as I want to try photo manips once I decide what software to get. 🙂
What a fantastic way to start the month Bcc!! Just brilliant! You gotta love John Porter in those aviator shades and the way you changed the reflection in them is genius!! Magwi’s choice of
the “Carmen” video is wonderful too. I adore Bizet’s music and the Habanera seems to fit perfectly here. Don’t you just wish that they HAD sent Luca for a holiday in Majorca!!! 🙂
Wow, that is a beautiful graphic! You could really boost Majorca’s tourism industry 🙂
Ahhh, sexy Porter! Wonderful!
John Porter wearing sunglasses on a sunny day… just perfect!!! Well done once again, Bccmee! Thanks magwi!
